International Day of Women and Girls in Science

February 11 is International Day of Women and Girls in Science. This year, the 6th International Day of Women and Girls in Science Assembly, will be held virtually at the United Nations Headquarters with the theme of Beyond the Borders: Equality in Science for Society. This day helps remind us how important STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) education is globally and that women play a valuable role in STEM fields.

  • What good can you do:
    • Learn: Check out the UN’s resources.
    • Read: Check out Women in Exploration. I will be posting bios of women in STEM throughout the year.
    • Support STEM: If you are a woman/girl, study. If you know a woman/girl, encourage them.
    • Share: Share information about women/girls in STEM with others so they can learn and get involved as well.

The photo is of me with one of my favorite female scientists, Tatiana, when we were in Islay, Scotland in 2017.
