International Zebra Day

There are currently three living zebra species: the Grévy’s zebra (imperial zebra), the mountain zebra, and the plains zebra. International Zebra Day helps raise awareness. The International Union for Conservation of Nature’s Red List of Threatened Species, lists Grévy’s zebras as endangered, mountain zebras as vulnerable, and plains zebras as near threatened.

  • What good can you do:
    • Learn: You can review National Geographic’s site as well as other online resources and books.
    • Donate: The Grevy’s Zebra Trust aims to conserve and grow the Grevy’s zebra population in Kenya.
    • Adopt: The World Wildlife Fund allows you to symbolically adopt a zebra.
    • Share: You can share zebra data with others so they can get involved.

I took this zebra photo while in South Africa.
